EWG meetings are hosted by UTERN’s Internal Executive Liaison approximately once each month throughout the academic year.
These meetings provide a way for students involved in environment-related clubs or initiatives to connect with UTERN and learn about our services. They also provide the opportunity for student leaders to network within the U of T environmental community and collaborate.
Network members include clubs like Dig In!/Regenesis, Green Chemistry Initiative, ENSU, UTEA, and many more!

Our 2026 Winter EWG was a great success, with approximately 20 attendees joining us for an engaging and collaborative session!
We started off by introducing UTERN, who we are, what we do, and how students can get involved. This included going over our funding opportunities, events, and some tips on how to put together a strong funding application.
We then shared a few updates, including this year’s EcoFest theme, “Water Resources and AI.” We talked a bit about how AI is impacting the environment, especially when it comes to water use and encouraged everyone to get involved, whether that’s attending events or applying for funding for their own ideas.
We also did some icebreakers to get people talking and thinking about different environmental issues and what actions can be taken. It was a great way for everyone to share ideas and learn from each other.
We ended the session with an open discussion and some networking, which gave people a chance to connect and build relationships with other environmental groups on campus.
We’ll be hosting our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and executive elections later this semester, so stay tuned for more details!

Our winter EWG was a great success with over 15 groups attending the meeting!
We started off with informing all groups about UTERN’s restructuring plans and what lies ahead of us next year with executive elections coming up, and administrative changes surrounding UTERN being explicitly discussed with all groups.
Next up, we were excited to announce this year’s EcoFest event from 17th to 21st March on the theme “Extinguishing Flames: Climate Mitigation, Adaptation, and Resilience.” EcoFest is a stupendous opportunity for all UofT groups and individuals who are passionate about this cause to share their work and views with other dedicated people!
Lastly, deliberation ensued on the relations between UTERN and other environmental groups. We want to create a tightknit and inclusive network of groups who strive for sustainability and environmental excellence across all three campuses!
We will be holding our final Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May of this year! We hope to see you there.

On Thursday 14th, the University of Toronto’s Student Environmental Resource Network held its first Fall 2024 EWG!
We gathered over 20 environmental groups and organizations across three campuses of the University of Toronto. We had a fun and productive conversation about environmental and sustainability initiatives across three campuses and how each organization can contribute!
We’re hoping to create potential collaboration out of this event, just as what UTERN is intended for, we are trying to provide everyone with the resources they need in advancing their climate action around campus!
We will hold our next EWG in winter, where we will try to gather even more groups to connect and create a conversation around climate discussion!
